<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an out-of-focus error signal detecting method of an optical head by which a track cross signal can detect an attenuated out-of-focus error signal in a plurality of optical recording media of which the physical track pitch are different, and an optical recording and reproducing apparatus using it, in the out-of-focus error signal detecting method of the optical head used for focus position control of an objective lens converging a light beam on an optical recording medium, and the optical recording and reproducing apparatus using it. <P>SOLUTION: A light beam emitted from a laser diode 3 is diffracted by a diffraction grating 19 and divided into a main beam 27 and ±1st order side beams 29a, 29b, the main beam 27 and the ±1st order side beams 29a, 29b, reflected by an optical recording medium 15 are received by light receiving elements 23, 25a, 25b, an out-of-focus error signal FES in which a track cross signal is attenuated based on a photoelectric-converted electric signal is detected by an error signal detecting part 31. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
