<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling insertion of a surgical device into a patient's body. <P>SOLUTION: The subject surgical device guide means includes a magnetic transmitter 192 installed on a fixing device 190, a magnetic position sensor 155 installed on a positioner 150, and a magnetic ultrasonic probe sensor 120 installed on an ultrasonic probe 110. A controller 140 can perform calculation required for determining a position of the positioner 150 for an image generated by the ultrasonic probe 110. There are several possible methods for determining positions and orientation of the postioner 150 and the ultrasonic probe 110. An alternative embodiment uses photosensors installed on the positioner 150 and the ultrasonic probe 110 to detect positions and orientation of the positioner 150 and the ultrasonic probe 110. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
