PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve train for an internal combustion engine capable of appropriately measuring a valve lift quantity. SOLUTION: A lift quantity adjusting mechanism 14 is provided with an input arm 17 swinging pushed by an intake cam 11a, and a swing arm 18 swinging based on the swing of the input arm 17. The swing arm 18 is formed with a base circle part 33 having a circular outer peripheral surface centering on the axis of a support pipe 15, and a nose part 34 projected from the outer peripheral surface of the base circle part 33 and lifting an intake valve 9 when the swing arm 18 swings. The swing arm 18 is formed with a detected part 36 projected from the upper part of the outer peripheral surface of the base circle part 33 and changed in radial width along a circumferential direction. The upper face of the detected part 36 is made a measuring surface 36a used as a measuring object of a gap sensor 35.
