PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickener for a detergent, exhibiting excellent thickening properties in a body detergent such as a shampoo, a rinse and a body shampoo, and a detergent such as a kitchen detergent, and having excellent temporal stability and foamability. SOLUTION: The thickener for the detergent, having the excellent thickening properties, and the excellent temporal stability and foamability is obtained by formulating a nonionic surfactant obtained by adding an alkylene oxide or an alkylene carbonate to an alkyl carbamate synthesized from alkylamines and an alkylene carbonate, with a detergent.
