The device for the applying of a fluid or paste medium, especially a greasing means, on a workpiece surface (32) comprises a nozzle housing (11) with an outlet orifice and a nozzle needle (12). A device (64) is provided for the position control of the nozzle needle. The device checks whether the nozzle needle occupies a determined position which may be the open position. The aforesaid device has a pair of electrical contact faces (29,30). An independent claim is included for a method for the control of a device for the applying of especially a greasing medium to a surface in which a nozzle needle during the processing of an area of the workpiece surface is displace multiply between its closed position and opening position.
