Method for determining the distance between a first transceiver and a second transceiver (3) operating within the GHz spectrum. According to the method the first transceiver receives signals from the second transceiver with frequencies above and below a modulation frequency. The difference between the modulation frequency and the upper or lower frequencies is proportional to the distance between the two transceivers. An Independent claim is made for a transceiver that can detect the position or range of another transceiver based on the frequency shift between the two side-band frequency signals closest to a modulation frequency.
