An air-depolarized alkaline cell comprises a cathode, a zinc anode and an electrolyte which is an aqueous solution of an alkaline hydroxide having chromium trioxide or an alkaline chromate or dichromate incorporated therein. In this manner self-discharge is suppressed and the regeneration of OH- ions is facilitated. The chromium trioxide or alkaline chromate or dichromate is incorporated in the electrolyte, when the electrolyte is sodium hydroxide, suitably in a proportion equivalent to 1 to 9 grams of chromium trioxide per litre of sodium hydroxide solution. |
