The device has a pipe (17) to transfer ink from a main reservoir (8) to a secondary reservoir (9). The ink is maintained at a constant level (S9) in the reservoir (9) by adjusting the position of the reservoir (9). An orifice (15) in the reservoir (9) is connected to a return pipe (18) returning the ink from the reservoir (9) to the reservoir (8). A peristaltic pump (27) allows permanent circulation of the ink between the reservoirs. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) an ink jet printer (B) a method for supplying ink to a printhead of the ink jet printer.
