Disclosed is a method of improving the sexual performance, or increasing the libido of a male subject, comprising percutaneously delivering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a steroid selected from testosterone, androstenedione, androstenediol, dehydroepiandrosterone, prenolone and dihydrotesttosterone (DHT) in a hydroalcoholic gel to the subject using a pharmaceutical composition comprising the steroid, at least one C1-4alcohol, a penetration enhancer, a thickener and water. Also disclosed is a kit for treating erectile dysfunction, comprising a pharmaceutical useful for treating erectile dysfunction and a pharmaceutical composition for percutaneous administration comprising testosterone in a hydroalcoholic gel, including at least one C1-4alcohol, a penetration enhancer, a thickener and water.
