A refractory lining, particularly for a cylindrical kiln, is formed of furnace bricks (11,12), laid to leave compensation gaps (15) filled with pour-cast fire resistant cement (20,21) and containing central, radial expansion gaps (19), which may be labyrinth form and/or insulation filled. Metal anchor-forks (22, 23), attached to a ducted metal carrier ring (5, 6) are embedded in the cement.
