Moisture and density detector (MDD)

A device for measuring the density and moisture content of dielectric materials, with particular application to lumber, is disclosed. The device passes a radio frequency signal 105 of up to 1000 MHz between two adjacent or opposed electrodes 110, 120 and measures 160 the signal strength and phase shift of the received signal. The output signal is compared to predetermined values 180 to give an estimate of moisture content and density of the sample 130.
