The method involves controlling a closing of an exhaust valve such that the closing is completed before that a piston associated to the valve reaches a top dead center. An inlet valve associated to the piston is started to open after reaching the top dead center. The closing and opening are controlled only when a motor load is less than a predetermined load. An independent claim is also included for an engine of a vehicle.
