PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated plastic material having on its surface a vapor deposition film that excels in transparency and gas barrier property such as oxygen barrier property and water vapor barrier property and that at the same time excels in alkali resistance, maintaining the excellent film performance without causing the film performance to drop even if brought into contact with an alkaline solution. SOLUTION: In the surface-coated plastic material having the vapor deposition film formed on the surface of a plastic base material, the vapor deposition film has an organosilicon polymer layer formed on the interface side with the surface of the plastic base material, a silicon oxide layer formed on the organosilicon polymer layer and a zirconium oxide containing layer or a titanium oxide containing layer formed on the silicon oxide layer.
