The screw stopper for containers, especially for bottles, comprises a sealing cap and a security band which via a retaining section and snap-on section is connected to the sealing cap. The security band (7) has a design break point and at least one snap-off section (11) which is located between the retaining section (15) and the design break point. The snap-off section is formed as a weakened line, preferably an incision, extending perpendicularly to the circumferential direction.
