The device (1) has pupils for laminar illumination with structured electromagnetic radiation and for laminar detection. Centers of the pupils form an even square in a reference plane (R). The plane is characterized by a contact reference scale of projection in an object space. A sample is projected with approximately a straight strip in the plane during strip projection by one of the pupils for illumination in the plane. An independent claim is also included for a method for optical strip projection.
