A steering device for vehicles comprising two electric motors imparting a steering force to a steering mechanism and a means performing drive control of the two motors with an identical gain (S22) according to the steering torque or steering amount. A means (S20) for detecting if one of the motors cannot be driven is provided. If the detecting means (S20) detects that any one motor cannot be driven, the control means increases the gain by a predetermined amount (S30), so that a steering member does not become heavy even if any one motor cannot be driven.
