[Also in Division H2] A hollow machine armature or similar coil having conductors formed on both sides of an insulating support is made by forming the conductor pattern and attaching it to one surface of an insulating sheet, folding it in half and bending it to form a cylinder and connecting the free ends. The developed winding pattern of conductors 11 is produced by stamping air gaps 13 out of a conductive sheet and are initially retained by bridges 12. A flexible insulating sheet, e.g. " Mylar " (Trade Mark) tape, is stuck on to the conductive sheet and the assembly folded about line 10a with the conductors outside. The bridges are then removed and the sheet bent into cylindrical form and the end connections made by dipsoldering. The completed armature winding may be attached to an insulated supporting cylinder which is mounted on a shaft, Fig. 5 (not shown). |
