摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earthquake warning device capable of estimating seismic intensity and issuing an alarm by arrival of S wave after observation of P wave based on the unique data measured by one device. SOLUTION: When a ground motion observation device A for observing a ground motion at an installation part observes the P wave of the ground motion, a seismic intensity estimating device 14 estimates the seismic intensity of the S wave coming in retard of the P wave, and a warning means issues an alarm when the estimated seismic intensity is higher than a predetermined seismic intensity. The seismic intensity estimating device A receives seismic source elements of at least an earthquake time, epicenter position, and magnitude, determines the distance from the epicenter position to the installation position of the ground motion observation device A, estimates the seismic intensity of the S wave with a seismic intensity estimating section 14a, based on the distance, earthquake start time, and magnitude, determines the difference between the estimated seismic intensity estimated by the seismic intensity estimating section 14a and the seismic intensity of the actual S wave, and automatically varies the coefficient of a calculating formula for performing the seismic intensity estimating calculation in the decreasing direction of the difference in the later seismic intensity estimating calculation with a correcting section 14b.
