The stele (1), as a memorial for the dead or missing, is a hollow pillar (1a) with information about those commemorated which can be read in text or viewed in an audio-visual system from data stored electronically or digitally. The pillar can incorporate at least one screen (2) with loudspeakers (3) at an upper and visible section (1b) of the pillar, protected from weather and vandalism by a shrouding (4). The playing unit (5) can be a video recorder (5a) and a sound playback (5b) and/or a computer (5c). Power is supplied from a battery (7) charged by a solar cell (8).
