939,362. Boring, facing and milling machines. INNOCENTI SOC. GENERALE PER L'INDUSTRIA METALLURGICA E MECCANICA. May 23, 1960 [March 21, 1960], No. 18119/60. Class 83 (3). A detachable tool-head carrying arm for a boring, facing and milling machine is provided with clamping means and may be positioned on different parts of the machine with its toolspindle disposed either horizontally or vertically. In one arrangement the arm 1, Fig. 1, with its slidable tool-head 2 is clamped to extend horizontally from the normal vertical column 3 of the machine, the tool-spindle thus being in a vertical position. The arm may be adjusted relatively to work 9 on a rotating table 11 by sliding the column 3 along the bed 12. Drive to the parts on the arm may be obtained by connection to the drive &c., on the usual vertically adjustable slide 4, or the arm may have self-contained drive means. In another arrangement, Fig. 4, the arm 1 is mounted vertically on a carriage 20 displaceable along the auxiliary bed 12a. The slidable tool-head spindle extends horizontally in this case. Clamping. Each part of the basic machine on which the arm 1 is to be clamped is provided with two T-slots and a parallel locating rib 37, Fig. 7. Four studs 27 on the end of the arm screw into T-shaped collars located in the slots and a guide part on the end of the arm fits over the rib. The arm is clamped to a support by an hydraulic piston 61, Fig. 9, which operates arms 60 and linked levers 51, 52, &c., which cam the studs and collars to clamp the arm against the rib and support faces. A device for initially supporting the arm, whilst it is being positioned against the column 3, is described. Specifications 687,335 and 700,043 are referred to. |
