PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new emulsion polymerization emulsifier which produces aggregates in the same amount and has the same polymerization stability as those in a case using an ether-type nonionic surfactant obtained by adding an alkylene oxide such as ethylene oxide to an alkyl phenol such as nonylphenol or octylphenol or an anionic surfactant obtained by esterifying the ether-type nonionic surfactant with sulfuric acid, on the production of a synthetic resin by an emulsion polymerization, and little gives loads to environments. SOLUTION: This emulsion polymerization emulsifier represented by the general formula (1): R-CO-O-(AO)<SB>n</SB>-X [R is a rosin residue; A is a 2 to 4C alkylene; (n) is an integer of 0 to 100; X is H, or an anionic hydrophilic group or its salt].
