PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing alkylene oxide adducts by using a catalyst comprising a metal alcoholate and a compound of boron trifluoride wherein the adverse effect due to by-products from the metal alcoholate can be inhibited. SOLUTION: After a metal alcoholate from a lower alcohol is added to a high boiling and active hydrogen-including compound, the lower alcohol is removed under reduced pressure to prepare a metal complex of the high boiling active hydrogen-including compound. Then, at least one of boron fluoride selected from the group consisting of boron trifluoride gas, boron trifluoride complex salts, borofluoric acid and borofluoride salts is added to the organic compound including the high boiling active hydrogen-including compound, then an alkylene oxide is added to the organic compound. In a preferred embodiment, at least one compound selected from the group consisting of the compounds of general formulas (1) to (3) is added as a metal alcoholate of a lower alcohol, and at least one compound, as a boron fluoride, selected from boron trifluoride gas, boron trifluoride ethyl ether complex, boron trifluoride phenol complex, boron trifluoride acetate complex is added thereby producing an alkylene oxide adduct.
