PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing aβ-fluoroalcohol. SOLUTION: This method for producing theβ-fluoroalcohol is characterized by effecting an alkyl-substituted imidazolium salt containing fluoride ion and expressed by formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>are the same or different and are each a substituted or non-substituted alkyl; R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are the same or different and are each H, or a substituted or non-substituted alkyl; Y<SP>-</SP>is a monovalent anion except for fluoride ion; and also 0<x≤1] and water on an epoxy compound.
