<p>A collection mechanism (15) gathers the data corresponding to the position of a balance roll (14) in a spiral conveyor system (1). The gathered data is used to control a servo unit (16), which powers the drum drive (4) within the system. The servo unit can also be controlled based the operating condition of a belt drive (6). An independent claim is also included for a spiral conveyor system.</p>
