PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine which can open the door without letting detergent foams drip from the door regardless of washing conditions such as the amount of laundry when the door is opened in order to additionally throw in laundry after the washing operation has been started. SOLUTION: This drum type washing machine is equipped with a door locking device which locks the door for opening/closing a throw-in port for laundry to a closure, a circulation pump which circulates washing water, and a temporary stopping means which can temporarily stop the operation, and so forth. At the time of the washing operation, the circulation pump is driven, and the door is locked by the operation of the door locking device, and also, the locked state can be released limited to a specified period of time from the start of the washing operation by the control of the temporary stopping means. At the same time, this type washing machine is constituted in such a manner that the operation starting time of the circulation pump can be changed in response to the amount of laundry.
