RECORDING AND REPRODUCING METHOD AND DEVICE OF DYE BASED WRITE ONCE TYPE DVD MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple power control method for bridging to switch to the highest linear velocity in recording of a dye based write once type DVD medium complying with high linear velocity.

SOLUTION: When recording and reproducing of dye based write once type DVD medium by a CLV system, and in a system in which recording is started on CLV linear velocity conditions other than the highest linear velocity at an innermost periphery and switched to recording with the high linear velocity sequentially from a radius position where rotation by linear velocity faster than the CLV linear velocity becomes possible, recording power control is performed sequentially by running OPC. When the power which records the last data at a low linear velocity side at linear velocity switching is made PLE, a ratio D (=PLE/PLi) of a deviation from optimal recording power PLiat the low linear velocity side coded and recorded beforehand on a substrate is obtained. Recording power at start at the high linear velocity side at switching is made PHSand the optimal recording power at the high linear velocity side coded and recorded beforehand on the substrate is made PHi, and the recording power obtained by PHS=D×PHiis defined as a recording power for starting high linear velocity recording when switching the recording linear velocity in this recording and reproducing method.
