<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for both rotation and horizontal movements, which is especially applied to dual purpose portable computers. <P>SOLUTION: The mechanism for both rotation and horizontal movements connects a base with a screen, and a rotation axis structure is provided to the base. A rotation platform rotates around the rotation axis structure, and a set of gear wheels and a hinge device are provided to the rotation platform. In addition, the hinge device is fixed to the screen. The set of gear wheels has an intermediate gear wheel, a left gear wheel and a right gear wheel, and the intermediate gear wheel is provided to the rotation axis structure. The left and right gear wheels engage with the intermediate one and have the same number of teeth. When the screen rotates, projected points of the left and right gear wheels activate long concave grooves of the hinge device to allow the hinge device to horizontally move on the rotation platform. Thereby, the above-described structure is different from conventional round rotation mechanisms, so that it is simplified to effectively use spaces and the screen completely covers the upper base to reduce unnecessary waste of space. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
