PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lifting mechanism element of a hand part for holding a carried material or releasing the hold in a carriage for a suspension type lifting and conveying device capable of preventing skip of a tooth in an engagement part of teeth parts of both a timing belt, which is formed from an elastic material and fixed to the hand part in one end and wound around a winding drum in the other end thereof for delivery, and a timing pulley for giving driving force to the timing belt. SOLUTION: In any case of a case wherein pitch of the teeth 5a of the timing belt 5 when the hand part holds the carried material and raise it becomes the maximum and in a case wherein pitch of the teeth 5a of the timing belt 5 when the hand part is lowered without holding the carried material becomes the minimum, a clearance exists in the engagement part of the teeth part 5a of the timing belt 5 and a teeth part 14a of the timing pulley 14 formed from a rigid body and for driving the timing belt 5, and necessary engaging strength is given.
