<p>A portable telephone enabling the user to search mails with a simple operation. It is judged whether or not telephone book data is searched for mail search, and the corresponding telephone book data is displayed when the telephone book data is searched (Fig. 2, S31). When specific telephone book data is selected, it is judged whether or not selection on a sub-menu is made or whether or not a specific button is pressed (S32). If the selection on the sub-menu is made and mail history search on the sub-menu is selected, mail search corresponding to the selected telephone book data is carried out (S32).
