In particular, there are provided an NCS protein and a gene therefor; a method of screening a drug (for example, anti-central neurologic disease agent); a regulator of diseases (for example, central neurologic disease); a process for producing drug derivatives; a complex containing a drug and an NCS protein, and a process for producing the same; a kit including a drug or its salt; a method of determining the development or development risk of given disease, a method of determining the sensitivity to drugs, and a determination kit for use in the methods; etc. Further, there is provided a compound, or its salt, capable of binding to NCS proteins, represented by the following formula (I), and provided a therapeutic or preventive agent for dementia comprising the compound of the formula (I) or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.
