PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the operating efficiency of a fuel cell by accurately controlling fuel supply to the anode or oxidant supply to the cathode. SOLUTION: In the operation method of the fuel cell comprising the anode, a fuel supply plate supplying a fluid containing fuel to the anode, a cathode, an oxidant supply plate supplying a fluid containing oxidant to the cathode, and an electrolyte interposed between the anode and the cathode, at least one of the fuel supply plate and the oxidant supply plate is divided into a plurality of reaction chambers, the inlet of the fluid containing the fuel or the oxidant and the outlet of the fluid containing the fuel and the oxidant are installed in each reaction chamber, a supply pump for supplying the fluid containing the fuel or the oxidant to the reaction chamber is installed at the inlet, an evacuation pump for evacuating the fluid containing the fuel or the oxidant from the reaction chamber is installed at the outlet, and the supply pump and the evacuation pump are driven in an optional pulse pattern for each reaction chamber or each group comprising the plurality of reaction chambers.
