Metal-coated polymer electrolyte membranes permeable to protons/hydrogen and methods of manufacturing thereof are disclosed. A fuel cell may be produced using a substrate 101, with the resultant design having a thin metal layer102, such as palladium, positioned between two layers of a porous metal 103, 701, such as palladium black, and optionally at least one layer of a polymer electrolyte 104. An alternate design uses at least one layer of a porous metal 804, such as palladium black, and optionally one or more layers of platinum black 805, 809, in combination with a mold 801, sacrificial layer 802, and optional microstructure 208. |
