PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyamide excellent in heat resistance, optical characteristics, and mechanical characteristics. SOLUTION: This polyamide has 25-90 mol% of repeating units expressed by general formula (1) (ringβand ringγare each a monocyclic ring or a polycyclic ring; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each H or a substituent; and L is a binding group having any one of structures of chemical formulae 2) and 10-75 mol% of repeating units expressed by general formula (2) (R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each a substituent; and p and q are each 0 to 4).
