PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary the magnitude of bypass current with the influence of heat generated due to the bypass current taken into account when the capacity of a battery pack is adjusted. SOLUTION: Capacity adjustment circuits A1 to An are respectively provided for cells C1 to Cn. When the voltage of a cell exceeds a bypass operation voltage, a bypass current is passed through a bypass resistor. Thus, variation in voltage from one cell to another is suppressed. A controller 3 varies the magnitude of the bypass current so that the magnitude of the bypass current obtained when a cooling fan 20 for cooling the bypass resistors is not in operation is smaller than the magnitude of the bypass current obtained when the cooling fan 20 is in operation.
