PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a decrease in the distribution of light at an edge and perform optimum shading correction for each paper size by using an auxiliary means for correcting the quantity of light at the edge, when irradiation control is performed only to a region corresponding to a detected document size in an image reader selectively irradiating only a document region according to a document size detection result with light by using a line source composed of a plurality of white LEDs. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises a document size detection means; a white LED array light source; a white LED array partial lighting control means; a means for assisting the quantity of light at the edge of the manuscript; a means for performing the shading correction for each document size; and a storage means.
