PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway apparatus and a faulty location estimating method whereby time and effort required for diagnosing a faulty location are considerably reduced on the occurrence of reception abnormality. SOLUTION: In a communication system including the gateway apparatus for interconnecting at least two different communication buses, the gateway apparatus includes a function of transmitting notice data, for informing a relay destination node of data about no arrival of the data to the gateway apparatus by a predetermined timing, to the relay destination node, the fault location estimating method estimates that a fault takes place in a data sender node itself or a communication path from the sender node to the gateway apparatus when the relay destination node does not receive the data and the relay destination node receives the notice data, and the faulty location estimating method estimates that a fault takes place in the gateway apparatus itself or a communication path from the gateway apparatus to the relay destination node when the relay destination node does not receive the data and the notice data.
