PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element for improving the efficiency and service life of an element, by minimizing the distance of a donor substrate laminated on a substrate and a first electrode, at the formation of an organic film layer pattern. SOLUTION: This organic electroluminescent element comprises a first electrode connected with either of the source/drain electrodes of a thin-film transistor through a via hole formed in a planarizing film, a pixel definition film patterned so that an opening part exposing at least a part of the flat film and an upper part of the first electrode is formed, an organic film layer pattern formed on the opening part of the first electrode and both end parts of the patterned pixel definition film and comprising a luminous layer and a second electrode, formed into the upper part of the organic film layer pattern. The height of the pixel definition film formed on the planarizing film in a region, where a first electrode that has not been formed is the same as or is lower than that of the pixel definition film formed on the first electrode.
