PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical sensor device having a simple structure, capable of easily and accurately detecting the diameter of a round-bar object. SOLUTION: Two sets of optics are prepared, each of which is constituted of a pair of a point source and a linear image sensor disposed opposite to the point source, and these two sets of optics are arranged, such that their optical axes are orthogonal to each other. Then, the positional coordinates of the round-bar object which is disposed in the optics, is obtained from the central position of a shadow form of the round-bar object detected by the respective linear image sensors, and a measurement scale factor for the optics is determined, in accordance with the positional coordinates, and the diameter of the round-bar object is computed accurately from the width 2a of the shadow form of the round-bar object detected, from the outputs of the liner image sensors, in accordance with the measurement scale factor.
