A piezoelectric actuator, which can drive a large object such as an image pickup element in a prescribed direction with high power without causing rotational shift, ensures a large moving quantity, and further, is applicable for reduction in sizes and weight, and is advantageous in mechanical endurance and manufacturing cost. The piezoelectric actuator having a balanced mechanical structure is provided by stacking two (even number) intersecting units and mutually fixing them. The intersecting unit is provided by permitting a pair of bimorph piezoelectric elements (21a and 21b, 21c and 21d) to intersect in X-shape . The image pickup element (11) is stably supported by two movable ends (C-1, C-2) at the leading end of the piezoelectric actuator. |
