1,240,138. Isomerizing aromatics. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 6 Dec., 1968 [22 Dec., 1967], No. 58019/68. Heading C5E. Non-equilibrium C 8 aromatic hydrocarbon fractions are catalytically isomerized to give an effluent comprising 0À2-9 wt. per cent C 8 naphthenes by a process including the following conditions (a) the catalyst comprises a refractory inorganic oxide (including aluminosilicates), a platinum group metal and combined halogen, the latter being present in an amount from 0À5 to 5 wt. per cent; (b) liquid hourly space velocity from 0À2 to 8; (c) temperature from 370-450‹ C; (d) pressure from 4-20 atmospheres absolute; (e) hydrogen present in an amount from 2À5- 10 mols per mol. of hydrocarbon. Free fluorine or chlorine in amount from 0À0001 to 0À1 wt. per cent may also be present. Examples describe isomerization of o-xylene, ethyl benzene, and various C 8 mixtures. |
