PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital apparatus with an input/output port performing the data transfer from/to the predetermined transmission path, one of two or more of the registers assigned for setting up the state of the input and the output of data from/to the transmission path of the input/output port, and a method which assigns any one of two or more of the registers to the input/output portion for controlling the input/output port based on the register. SOLUTION: The digital apparatus 10 has at least one input/output port performing the input or output of data via transmission paths such as IEEE1394 serial bus, two or more of the PCR(s) for controlling the state of the input and output of data from/to the transmission path, and a PCR matrix management portion 15 which assigns any one of two or more of the PCR(s) to the input/output port according to predetermined conditions.
