PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely start an internal combustion engine without cranking. SOLUTION: In this internal combustion engine performing such a combustion starting that rotation is started by combustion based on ignition, the secular change of a cylinder pressure when the engine is stopped is detected or estimated based on an elapsed time from the stop of the engine. Based on the secular change of the detected or estimated cylinder pressure, control parameters for combustion starting such as fuel injection amount and ignition delay timing are corrected.
