PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance capable of emitting phosphorescence and a light-emitting element exhibiting good chromaticity. SOLUTION: The organometallic complex includes a structure represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>-R<SP>5</SP>are each hydrogen, a halogen element, acyl group, alkyl group, alkoxy group, aryl group, cyano group or heterocyclic group; Ar is an aryl group or a heterocyclic group and, particularly preferably, an aryl group bearing an electron-withdrawing substituent or heterocyclic group bearing the electron-withdrawing substituent; and M is a group 9 or 10 element). That Ar is a group bearing the electron-withdrawing substituent permits acquisition of the organometallic complex emitting phosphorescence with a higher luminous intensity and being useful for a light-emitting layer of the light-emitting element.
