1,162,781. Stitched non-woven fabrics. BEACON MFG. CO. 1 Jan., 1968 [6 Oct., 1967], No. 190/68. Heading D1R. A non-woven fabric suitable for use as a blanket is formed from a single batt 11 of fibres 12 which extend in the widthwise direction of the fabric, lengthwise extending spaced apart rows 15 of stitches formed from a continuous yarn 16 being provided passing from one face of the batt to the other, and the stitched batt being needled from each side to prevent unravelling of the stitches. The surfaces of the batt may be raised and napped to obscure the needle penetrations and the stitches. The rows of stitches may be rows of chain stitches having straight chain loops on one side and straight line components on the other parallel to the chain loops. Alternatively the rows of stitches comprise shogged stitches having chainloop components on one side and diagonal components on the other side extending between the rows of chain loops. The fibres used include cotton-wool, polyamide, polyester, polyacrylic and regenerated cellulosic.
|
