摘要 Provided is a technique of discriminating the direction of a fluorescent lamp in a method for manufacturing a direct backlight unit wherein adjacent fluorescent lamps are alternately arranged. In a preparation step in the method for manufacturing the backlight unit, a plurality of fluorescent lamps are prepared. In the fluorescent lamps, a length (a1) from a first sealing section end portion of a glass valve (26) to an area where a fluorescent layer (32) does not exist is shorter than a length (a2) from a second sealing section to an area where the fluorescent layer (32) does not exist (a1<a2). In a detection step, such difference between the lengths is detected by using a sensor, and in an arrangement step, the fluorescent lamps are arranged in a case with the end portion sides alternately arranged on the same side, by using the detection results.
