An apparatus for generating water gas is provided to allow electrolytic plates to be contacted with water which is filled in housings by separating the electrolytic plates by partitions, thereby increasing electrolysis efficiency of the water. An apparatus for generating water gas comprises housings(110), a plurality of electrolytic plates(120), electrodes(130a), an oxygen tank(140), and a hydrogen tank(150). Electrolysis is progressed in the housings. The electrolytic plates are arranged from end to end of the housings. The electrodes are connected with the electrolytic plates to apply electricity to the electrolytic plates. The oxygen tank stores oxygen in the water gas. The hydrogen tank stores hydrogen in the water gas. The housings are divided into upper and lower housings. A plurality of partitions(114) are formed in one of the two housings.
