A refrigeration cycle apparatus is provided to detect frost on an air heat exchanger effectively by reducing heat transfer per hour from heat source to refrigerant on a frost determining mode less than that of an ordinary drive mode. A refrigeration cycle apparatus comprises a heat exchanger for condensation(2), an expansion valve for expanding refrigerant, a heat exchanger for evaporation, and a control unit(6). The heat exchanger for evaporation includes an air heat exchanger(41) and a heat source heat exchanger(42). The control unit runs an ordinary drive mode and a frost determining mode. The refrigerant flows to the air heat exchanger and the heat source heat exchanger on the ordinary drive mode. The refrigerant flows to the air heat exchanger for heat exchange in the air heat exchanger, and heat transfer per hour from a heat source to the refrigerant is reduced less than that of the ordinary drive mode on the frost determining mode.
