METHOD FOR DATA PROCESSING IN PORTABLE TERMINAL

A method for processing data in a portable terminal is provided to enable the portable terminal to store data with a format compatible with a heterogeneous terminal, to transmit the data to an external apparatus, to receive the data edited in the heterogeneous terminal and to store the edited data. A method for processing data comprises the following several steps. A portable terminal accesses a computer via a USB data communication cable(S201) and transmits its environment data to the computer(S202). The computer analyzes the environment information and recognizes the portable terminal(S203). If a user requests the computer to browse UMS(USB Mass Storage) data, the computer requests the portable terminal to transmit the UMS data(S204). If the portable terminal recognizes the request for transmitting the UMS data, the portable terminal transmits the UMS data to the computer(S205). The computer displays the UMS data stored at an UMS section of the portable terminal and basic information of content stored at an EFS(Embedded File System) section of the portable terminal by using each folder for enabling a user to browse them(S206). If the user edits the UMS data displayed by the computer, the computer transmits the edited UMS data to the portable terminal(S207,S208). The portable terminal updates the UMS data by using the edited UMS data and performs a setup operation in correspondence with the edited data(S209).
