An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving a signal in a communication system using a block low density parity check code are provided to improve a performance by providing an optimum punctured pattern for transmitting/receiving a signal. An apparatus for transmitting/receiving a signal in a communication system using a block low density parity check code includes an encoder(411), a puncher(413), and a transmitter(419). The encoder generates a low density parity check code from information vector based on a parity check matrix. The puncher generates a final code word by puncturing the low density parity check code to be corresponding to a punctured pattern. The transmitter transmits the final code word. The punctured pattern is generated based on a degree distribution and a minimum cycle of a factor graph of the final code word vector.
