METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DECODING DATA IN A RECEIVER OF DIGITAL BROADCASTING SYSTEM

A method and an apparatus for decoding data in a receiver of a digital broadcasting system are provided to improve a broadcasting service in a mobile communication environment by performing a repeated decoding many times in a digital broadcasting receiver for receiving a TS(Transport Stream) packet. An apparatus for decoding data in a receiver of a digital broadcasting system includes an RS(Reed-Solomon) decoder(902), a first buffer(916b), a second buffer(916a), an eraser RS decoder(912), and a second buffer control unit(914). The RS decoder receives and decodes an input RS packet or previously decoding-failed-data. The first buffer stores decoding-success-data as a decoding result of the RS decoder. The second buffer stores decoding-failed-data as a decoding result of the RS decoder. The eraser RS decoder performs an eraser-RS-decoding for the data buffered by the first buffer after the RS decoding, and corrects an error of the data stored in the first buffer. After the decoding of the eraser RS decoder, the second buffer control unit controls the decoding-failed-data stored in the second buffer of the data buffered in the first buffer to be access to an access to be buffered to the first buffer, and overwrites the eraser-RS-decoding data stored in a corresponding address to the second buffer. The second buffer control unit provides the decoding-failed-data stored in the second buffer to the RS decoder.
